Pamlico Pix: Featuring photos by Kendra Smith, Jennie Kennel Adams and John Shearer
Welcome to Pamlico Pix, a monthly look at the beautiful photography coming out of Pamlico County, NC. If you would like your photo to be considered, please email it along with a short summary of who you are and how you did it: [email protected]
Photo by Kendra Smith, Kendra photographed the Christmas Parade in the town of Oriental during The Spirit of Christmas celebration this December. She is a 14 year-old photojournalist and a member of the YNTO (Youth Navigating Toward Opportunity) Snapshots.
Photo by Jennie Kennel Adams, "This is the Old Mill pond on 1005. Mr. George Brinson would tell me stories about the Mill that was located on the pond. There's a horizontal set of timbers going across the creek. This is the head water for Goose Creek. Farmers in the area would bring their corn and grain to the mill for grinding. My mother told me she used to come with a mule cart as the grain was brought to the mill. Apparently they had to create an elevation so that the water would flow through the Mill's wheel and you can sort of see the earthen mounds that created the elevation. Right now the logs across the pond are good for turtles in the summer, sunning themselves. It's also a quick injection of how much rain we have had or have not had.”
Photo by John Shearer: "I moved to Stonewall in October of 2020 to be closer to my sailboat refit project in Oriental. In Christmas 2021, I stepped outside and took my iPhone to shoot this photograph of the lighted Seasons Greetings sign and downtown Stonewall including the United Methodist Church. The sign was conceived by Stonewall Mayor Charles Alexander some years ago and I particularly like it because it speaks of inclusivity of all faiths and cultures."
