Red Cross Blood Drive Pamlico County, Pamlico Community Center, 9 a.m.- 1p.m.
Community Memorial and Group Labyrinth walk. November 1 is All Saints’ Day or All Hallows’ Day in the Christian calendar, and is an opportunity to remember those whom we have loved who have died, and how they have contributed to the people we’ve become. All members of the community are invited to light a candle in memory of those who have died in the past year and join in a brief walk of remembrance on the labyrinth. Questions? The Labyrinth is located across from Lou Mac Park at the intersection of Freemason St and South St., 5 p.m.

Pamlico County Public Library Book/Tech Mobile Visits Oriental at the Piggly Wiggly, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm, Arapahoe Town Hall, 2 p.m.-4 p.m.
Oriental’s History Museum presents a retrospective of the artwork of Lucille Styron Truitt. Some pieces will be available for sale. Lucille was a self-taught artist. For over 40 years, Lucille painted local landscapes, fishing vessels, harbors, and the coastal fishermen at work. Mayor Sally Truitt Belangia, Lucille’s daughter, will be on hand Saturday, greeting visitors and answering questions about Lucille and her painting career. Lucille’s work will be on display through January 27, as the museum’s Fall Special Exhibit. The Oriental History Museum is at 802 Broad Street. Oriental Farmers Market, by the harbor, 8-11 a.m.
Oriental Dragon Boat Festival at River Dunes. Dragon boat Racing has been called “the ultimate team sport” because of its ability to accommodate a wide spectrum of ages and skill levels. Crews vary in makeup, style, intensity, experience, age and purpose. This festival has had racers from 12 to 87. There are Military Men and Women’s Teams, Cancer Survivor Teams, Senior Teams. Youth Teams, Club Teams, NonProfit Teams, Community Teams and Corporate Teams. For those not in the boats, there’s food vendors, live music, kid’s activities, a parade of teams and more. The day begins at 8 a.m. with a Captain’s Meeting, followed by opening remarks, a parade of teams and tribute to Bob Parker, the ‘dotting of the eye of the dragon’. Races begin around 9:30 a.m. with the last race ending about 3 p.m. An awards ceremony follows the last race.
The Friends of the Pamlico Library sponsor a BYOB (Bring Your Own Bag) Stock up on your Autumn reading: bring your own bag, fill it full, and pay by donation – there are no set prices. On the evening before – Friday Nov 3, from 4-6p – Friends of the Library Members are invited to the ‘Sip & Search’, a sneak preview of the sale. Refreshments will be available. Held in the FOL annex trailer to the right rear of the Pamlico County Library, at 603 Main Street in Bayboro. 9 a.m.- 4 p.m.

Hope Clinic and The Red Rooster host the Rock & Roast. Oysters are back for the Rock & Roast – an annual fundraiser for Hope Clinic (Hope Clinic is a non-profit providing free medical care to low-income, uninsured adults and free, outpatient addiction treatment to adults in Pamlico County and surrounding areas.) Come out and get a bucket of oysters, a bowl of stew, and an evening of music by The Southern Hellcats. It starts at 6p and ends when the music stops. There’s also a cash bar and a 50 / 50 raffle. Tickets are $30 per person, on sale at Nautical Wheelers, The Silos, and Hope Clinic, 6 - 9 p.m.
Pamlico Musical Society welcomes traditional Irish singer Seamus Egan, at The Old Theater in Oriental. Tickets to the concert are $25 and are available in Oriental at Nautical Wheelers, 411 Broad Street, in New Bern at Nautical Wheelers, 202A Craven Street, and online at www.pamlicomusic.org, 7:30 p.m.

Noah Jackson Cobb at The New Village Brewery & Taproom in Oriental. The Jasmine Tasty Thai food truck will also be present. Noah Jackson Cobb is a rising star in the Eastern North Carolina music scene, writing and performing his own original songs, 5 -7 p.m.

Narcotics Anonymous – A group atmosphere which provides help from peers, and offers an on-going support network for addicts who wish to pursue and maintain a drug-free lifestyle. Never Alone – meets Wednesday at 7 pm. at Alliance United Methodist Church, 687 Main Street in Bayboro.
The Pamlico Survivors of Suicide Support Group (SOS) is a free support group for people who have experienced the loss of a loved one to suicide. Whether it happened recently or decades ago, all are welcome to attend these sessions which are led by experienced counselors.

*The Neuse Neighbors Network (NNN) needs you. NNN is a not-for-profit, all volunteer organization dedicated to helping local seniors age in place. NNN volunteers choose the type and timing of the tasks they can help with. There are no fixed commitments and you can meet new people. *Child Advocates Needed: The NC Guardian ad Litem Program for Judicial District 3B (Carteret, Craven and Pamlico Counties) is recruiting volunteer Guardian ad Litem Child Advocates. We provide training and support for this important role as the "voice of the child" in court. When a petition has been filed alleging that a child has been abused or neglected, the Guardian ad Litem Child Advocate is appointed by the Judge to do an independent investigation of the child's circumstances, get to know the child and their wishes, and provide information in court about what is truly in that child's best interest. *Pamlico County Senior Services needs more volunteers to help build handicap access ramps at the homes of some of Pamlico’s older residents. Senior Services provides the materials while volunteers led by Tim Balfour construct one ramp every month. Contact Tim at 745-3247 to offer a hand for the next project.
*Pamlico County Fishes And Loaves is collecting canned goods and has a drop-off point inside First Citizens Bank in Oriental. Fishes and Loaves is a cooperative effort of a number of churches and organizations in Pamlico County working to provide food to the hungry.
*Horses of Pamlico is looking for volunteers to visit the horses or help with farm repairs. They would like to have regular volunteers who can commit to at least one day a week. No experience with horses necessary. Must sign a waver. Text Sharon Vandiford for more information, 252-474-7838
