Fun in Pamlico County, helping families in need
Today, Down in the County features a story written and photographed by Quamori Miller, a 14 year-old journalist who is a freshman at Pamlico County High School. He currently lives in Aurora and says he loves photojournalism. Quamori is a YNTO Snapshot.
The set up was something last Saturday at the county ball park. It was a hot and steamy day, the sky looked dark and somber even through there was very little rain for relief. But that didn’t stop them. The bouncy houses, foam machine and bingo games were all set up on time by the Pamlico Fun Day organizers.
Pamlico Fun Day was set up by The Kelly Twinz Helping Hands Foundation, a non-profit based out of Alliance, NC, to support needy families in Pamlico County with support to local schools, affordable housing and more. The foundation is run by Chevette Kelly Bell and her sister Chevonne Kelly. The sisters also incorporate family and friends in the foundation.
A little after 11 a.m., people slowly started straggling in with kids and grandkids, some of them looked a little nervous at first but when they hit the water slide everything relaxed. There was also a lot of excitement in the foam machine area—not only from the kids, but from adults trying to cool off as well. Over 100 people attended the event.
I was able to ask Chevette Kelly how she was feeling with this being one of their first big community outreaches. “I’m excited to be able to provide something for the community. We plan on having many more community events to give people in the county something to do and have fun…stay on the lookout,” she said.
If you would like to donate digitally to The Kelly Twinz Helping Hands Foundation, you can find them on Facebook here, or come by in-person at Level Up Auto sales in Alliance.
