Formed in 2015 and based in Los Angeles, The String Revolution is a boundary-pushing, genre-blending ensemble comprised of three world-class guitarists who fuse diverse styles into a singular, captivating sound. With a style marked by intricate melodies, rich harmonies, and virtuosic technique, the trio features guitarist Janet Robin, who has toured with the likes of Lindsey Buckingham, Air Supply and others; Markus Illko, an award-winning Austrian guitarist; and Cuban guitarist Rober Luis. An Information/Orientation Session for prospective volunteers will be held at Heartworks 21st Century Community Learning Center, 709 Main Street, Bayboro. You will get a tour of the facility and learn about the free AfterSchool and Summer Programs that serve Kindergarten- 8th grade children. Volunteers are needed to read with children, tutor math, help in the classrooms and/or assist other volunteers with group enrichment activities such as Yoga, Chess, Basketball, Drumming, Book Club, etc.. (Believe it or not - the kids love all of those activities.) A weekly commitment is NOT required.

The One-Off Book Club meets the 2nd Monday of every month at the Perry Griffin Foundation House in Oriental. After reading 2 books: Life Worth Living, a Guide to What Matters Most by Volf, Croasmun and McAnnally-Linz, and Wake Up Grateful by Kristi Nelson, the book club is now focusing on topics about life and living. The topic is emailed to participants each month in advance, but it’s not necessary to prepare in order to attend. New attendees are most welcome. The Old Theater’s Annual membership meeting is at The Old Theater in Oriental. Previous members and new members are invited to attend. Prospective members will have an opportunity to join before and after the meeting. There is social time with refreshments from Mariposa before the meeting. The Board of Directors will present a review of 2026 events and share their vision going forward. A question/answer session will provide members an opportunity to provide input and ask questions. Entertainment afterward by the Notta Band with Tom (Mac) McWilliams, George Bailey and Dave Holt. Eighty years ago, The Old Theater was the local movie theater. Many residents remember when movies cost a quarter and popcorn was a dime. The theater has always been a cornerstone of life in Oriental. 3 p.m.

Oriental celebrates the Chinese/Lunar New Year with a Dragon Run. The Chinese Dragon and team are bringing on the new year – 2026 is the “Year of the Horse.” (We’ve been in the Year of the Snake.) The Dragon makes its run on Hodges Street by the harbor at 2:00 p.m. Throughout the day local restaurants and the Piggly Wiggly will have Asian food specials. Since unofficially adopting the Dragon as a symbol for the Town of Oriental in the 1960s the running of the Dragon has occurred on New Year’s Eve and on special occasions throughout the year. For the last fiftteen years there has also been a Dragon Run for the Chinese New Year. Kids are welcome to march along with the Dragon. Pamlico Support Group of Autism Society of NC - Monthly Meeting. The Pamlico Support Group of Autism Society of NC and the Pamlico County Library are working together to provide monthly support meetings to those with autism and their family members. 11am – 12:30pm

Pamlico Parkinson’s Network provides a place to talk, as well as learn what those with PD can do – and what’s being done – to deal with the still-incurable condition. *The Neuse Neighbors Network (NNN) needs you. NNN is a not-for-profit, all volunteer organization dedicated to helping local seniors age in place. NNN volunteers choose the type and timing of the tasks they can help with. There are no fixed commitments and you can meet new people. *Vennie Himbry is looking for land or a building to be donated to her non-profit called the Bayboro Development Center to help people who have been incarcerated in the county get back on their feet. Contact Vennie at [email protected]
*Pamlico County Senior Services needs more volunteers to help build handicap access ramps at the homes of some of Pamlico’s older residents. Senior Services provides the materials while volunteers construct one ramp every month. Contact Tom Newman at 252-671-4811 to offer a hand for the next project.
*Pamlico County Fishes And Loaves is collecting canned goods and has a drop-off point inside First Citizens Bank in Oriental. Fishes and Loaves is a cooperative effort of a number of churches and organizations in Pamlico County working to provide food to the hungry.
*Horses of Pamlico is looking for volunteers to visit the horses or help with farm repairs. They would like to have regular volunteers who can commit to at least one day a week. No experience with horses necessary. Must sign a waver. Text Sharon Vandiford for more information, 252-474-7838
