Kids Fun Day at Harbourside Garden Co., 15495 NC Highway 55, Bayboro, 9 a.m.- 5p.m.
The Pamlico Community Band performs a free holiday concert at St. Peter the Fisherman. Come listen to your seasonal favorites. This hour-long concert is free to attend. St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church is at 1149 White Farm Rd, Oriental, NC 28571, 7:30 p.m.
Pamlico County Public Library Book/Tech Mobile Visits Oriental at the Piggly Wiggly, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm, Arapahoe Town Hall, 2 p.m.-4 p.m.
Oriental’s History Museum presents a retrospective of the artwork of Lucille Styron Truitt. Some pieces will be available for sale. Lucille was a self-taught artist. For over 40 years, Lucille painted local landscapes, fishing vessels, harbors, and the coastal fishermen at work. Mayor Sally Truitt Belangia, Lucille’s daughter, will be on hand Saturday, greeting visitors and answering questions about Lucille and her painting career. Lucille’s work will be on display through January 27, as the museum’s Fall Special Exhibit. The Oriental History Museum is at 802 Broad Street. The Village Gallery welcomes December’s Artist of the Month, Pappy Khouri. The Village Gallery is at 300 Hodges St in Oriental, open 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., Wed – Sun. Pamlico Musical Society welcomes countertenor Terry Barber, performing his holiday program ‘Christmas Presence’, to The Old Theater in Oriental. There’s also a free “informance” – a music, stories, and a Q&A session – hosted by Prime Time at Oriental United Methodist Church at 1 p.m. earlier in the day. Prime Time will hold a reception directly after in the Fellowship Hall. Tickets to the evening concert are $25 and are available at Nautical Wheelers at 411 Broad Street in Oriental, and 202A Craven Street in New Bern. Or purchase your tickets online here. The Old Theater presents: Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part 1. Box office opens at 2:00p. Doors open at 2:30p. Movie starts at 3:00p. Oriental’s Drummin’ Dragons get together every Sunday afternoon from 3-4:30 p.m. You’ll find them in Lou Mac Park on Sunday afternoons in summer, weather permitting. In inclement weather, they gather at the Oriental United Methodist Fellowship Hall (and possibly for the winter). All are invited – come on by and learn to drum. The Tree of Names and Lights goes live at Lou Mac Park. It remains up until New Year’s Day. The tree is an Oriental tradition, revived in 2019 by unofficial Oriental historian Grace Evans. It honors and memorializes residents and loved ones (people and pets). Grace’s daughter Meta Jones continues the tradition for her late mother.For a $5 donation, one candle ornament with the name of your loved one is hand made and placed on the Tree of Names and Lights in Lou Mac Park. A red bow on the candle means ‘In Honor of’, a green bow is ‘In Memory of’. Donations go to a different charity each year. This year, donations go to support the Oriental History Museum. The Jingle Bell Fun Run, just before the Spirit of Christmas parade at 1 p.m. Adults, children, pets … all are invited to participate in this casual run (no bicycles, please).The 2 mile course starts at the parking lot of Village Health & Fitness. Holiday dress/decor is encouraged. Registration cost is donation only (any amount, even $1). Proceeds benefit Hope Clinic. Anime-Manga Appreciation for Kids at the Pamlico County Public Library (ages 8-13) Feel free to bring something to share with the group like trading cards, your favorite series, your favorite drawing, etc. We will play an Anime-Manga game, try food that is often showcased in Anime-Manga, and more. When the program is over you can browse our extensive Anime-Manga collection and take some books home! This month we will make our own trading cards! For even more fun, bring your own card collection for show and tell, 5 p.m.

Loom Club for Kids & Teens at the Pamlico County Public Library (Recommended for ages 7+) This program is great for those who already love to make loom masterpieces, or those who would like to learn, 3 p.m.
The Pamlico Progressives are a concerned group of citizens who seek to bring about change by focusing on issues that affect our community and by holding elected officials accountable. They seek to let our collective voices be heard to influence positive change. They meet monthly on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 4:00 at the Pamlico County Heritage Museum at 10642 NC-55, Grantsboro, NC. All are welcome to join them. The Running of the Oriental New Years’ Eve Dragon. There are two runnings – both starting and finishing at Hodges and South Water. The first run starts at 8 p.m., the second around 11:30 p.m. and in recent years has had not one but two dragons as the Chinese dragon joins in on the late run. Bring pots, bring pans: make your own music for the dragon. After the end of that second dragon run, stick around the Hodges Street waterfront just a few minutes more: at midnight, the Oriental Croaker will drop at Town Dock to welcome in the new year.

Narcotics Anonymous – A group atmosphere which provides help from peers, and offers an on-going support network for addicts who wish to pursue and maintain a drug-free lifestyle. Never Alone – meets Wednesday at 7 pm. at Alliance United Methodist Church, 687 Main Street in Bayboro.
The Pamlico Survivors of Suicide Support Group (SOS) is a free support group for people who have experienced the loss of a loved one to suicide. Whether it happened recently or decades ago, all are welcome to attend these sessions which are led by experienced counselors. *People living with Parkinson’s Disease in and around Pamlico County now have a support group. Pamlico Parkinson’s Network provides a place to talk, as well as learn what those with PD can do – and what’s being done – to deal with the still-incurable condition. *Children’s Theater Workshop is seeking local children to play angels, wisemen, and other roles in the Live Nativity performed during the Spirit of Christmas in Oriental. This production is led and directed by teens who participate in the Summer Theater Workshop. Here is the full list of rehearsals and are held at the Oriental United Methodist Church’s fellowship hall:
Sat 12/2: Casting Call and Rehearsal 1p-2p Tues 12/5: Rehearsal 4:30-5:30p Thurs 12/7: Rehearsal 4:30-5:30p Friday 12/8: Dress Rehearsal 4:15-5:15p Saturday 12/9: Arrive at 2:45p on Saturday for the 3:30p performance.

* Spirit of Christmas Luminaria – Michelle Brooks, new Chair of the Luminary Committee, is asking for help fundraising for this year’s luminaria. All funds donated to the Luminaries will be used to purchase white bags, candles & glass votives, and cellophane bags & sand.
Donations can be made by cash, check made out to The Spirit of Christmas – with “Luminary” in the memo, or by Venmo.
Volunteers are needed for all phases of luminary creation, deployment, and retrieval, including block captains for deployment, trucks and trailers, and clean 5 gal buckets for sand collection. The full Luminaria schedule with info is here.

*Child Advocates Needed: The NC Guardian ad Litem Program for Judicial District 3B (Carteret, Craven and Pamlico Counties) is recruiting volunteer Guardian ad Litem Child Advocates. We provide training and support for this important role as the "voice of the child" in court. When a petition has been filed alleging that a child has been abused or neglected, the Guardian ad Litem Child Advocate is appointed by the Judge to do an independent investigation of the child's circumstances, get to know the child and their wishes, and provide information in court about what is truly in that child's best interest. *Pamlico County Senior Services needs more volunteers to help build handicap access ramps at the homes of some of Pamlico’s older residents. Senior Services provides the materials while volunteers led by Tim Balfour construct one ramp every month. Contact Tim at 745-3247 to offer a hand for the next project.
*Pamlico County Fishes And Loaves is collecting canned goods and has a drop-off point inside First Citizens Bank in Oriental. Fishes and Loaves is a cooperative effort of a number of churches and organizations in Pamlico County working to provide food to the hungry.
*Horses of Pamlico is looking for volunteers to visit the horses or help with farm repairs. They would like to have regular volunteers who can commit to at least one day a week. No experience with horses necessary. Must sign a waver. Text Sharon Vandiford for more information, 252-474-7838
