Allison is joining our team to help fill the shoes of Eleazar Yisrael. El recently left for graduate school and will be deeply missed.
We are excited to see her beautiful words and images here at DC. Feel free to contact her with story ideas at [email protected].
I interviewed Allison on her past and passions this past week.

Allison DeWeese is the new reporter/photographer for Down in the County.
Allison always wanted to live in North Carolina. Originally from a rural community in Florida, she moved to Pamlico County in 2017. You may have seen her contributions to Towndock.net, a local publication that covers the town of Oriental.
“I grew up in an agricultural community in Florida,” she said. “So (being here) feels very comforting. And my dad is from West Virginia, so that small town feel is something I love. It reminds me of the places I’ve called home.”
Her journalistic interests lie in the everyday moments and everyday people that are often overlooked in larger publications.
“I like the stories that people tell about themselves—where they are from and where they inhabit,” she said. “There is a lot of beauty and uniqueness in the everyday.”
For Allison, this also involves the natural beauty of Pamlico County.
“I think I saw a fox fun through my parking lot this morning. And I know where that flock of turkeys always sit,” she said.
But her love of the water has its limits.
“I grew up with a swamp in our backyard, so I associate the water with alligators and water moccasins,” she mused. “I see the water as beautiful, but I approach it with caution.”
