As we head into the final months of the ‘25-’26 school year, the Pamlico County School Board met on February 23 to discuss a range of good news and progress. Celebrating Rotary Students of the Month

Aribella Smith is Pamlico Middle School’s Rotary Student of the Month. Aribella is a straight A student and a dedicated member of Beta Club. 

Tavia Ellison has been selected as Pamlico County High School's Rotary Student of the Month. She is a gifted writer who is described as kind, genuine, and always looking for the best in others. 

Mark your calendars for upcoming events

School principals share updates about their respective schools at each meeting. February’s meeting was all about upcoming events at the schools.

On March 18 from 5:00 to 6:30 pm, Pamlico County Middle School will have their spring Title night. Principal Minor described the event as “PCMS in action; a visit back in time, a glimpse into the future.” Each grade will showcase student work with indoor displays of projects from the third school quarter. They will also have a curriculum fair to display high school letters written to eighth-grade students who will attend Pamlico High next year.

Pamlico County Primary School (PCPS) will host their first ever first-grade musical on March 24.

On Friday, March 6 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, North Carolina pre-K students and families are invited to PCPS for Registration Day. While families can register at any time, this special event will special activities for kids and assistance with any registration concerns.

PCPS has their Title I night on March 17. This will be a math night and the night of the book fair. A meal will be available for families.

At Fred A Anderson Elementary, students will enjoy a jazz music performance on March 20th. The school’s Title I night will be March 26 with a math focus.

School Improvement Milestones

Each of the principals had improvements and updates to report. Some of the highlights:

  • At the high school disciplinary incidents are down approximately 60% as compared to two years ago.

  • PCHS students earned 375 credentials during the first semester, more than were earned in the entire 2024-2025 school year.

  • Students have initiated three new student groups: a youth chapter of the NAACP; a book club; and a math club that plans to start competing next year.

  • PCPS students increased reading scores by 20%.

  • FAA fourth graders hit 71% on their dual assessments. Fifth graders at the school increased math proficiency rates to 60%.

School Construction Continues

Henry Rice provided an update on construction at the new school continues to run on schedule in spite of heavy snow preventing work on several days. He shared a number of pictures of their progress. The expected completion date is still May 31.
