March 2022 Pamlico Pix: Carol Krom and Bob Parker
Welcome to Pamlico Pix, a monthly look at the beautiful photography coming out of Pamlico County. If you would like your photo to be considered, please email it along with a short summery of how you did it to: [email protected]
(All photos are welcome, including smart phone photography or photos of old prints.)
The first image featured is by Carol Krom who lives in Arapahoe, photographed with a Fuji XT1 in February, 2017, while on an outing with the Coastal Photo Club.
"It was a freezing cold sunrise off of highway 304 in Bayboro," she told me. "The rest of the club was photographing the marina. I went off by myself, near the point. I've never again seen sunrise colors like these."
Beautiful sunrise and sunset photos are not difficult to find in the county, and I love seeing them, but what drew me to Carol's image was that quiet darkness in the moments just before the sun peaks over the horizon.
These two black and white images were photographed near the Dawson Creek Bridge in February, 2022, by Bob Parker of Oriental.
"I retired about a year and a half ago and have worked more in my lifelong photography habit," he wrote. "I shot these on a Nikon D750. The birds shot was at 105mm and the shore shot is with a 20mm lens."
I chose Bob's images because, using a monochrome setting on his digital camera, the composition stands out, highlighting the reflections and textures in nature.
